Triwer – Linda Evangelista has admitted that when she was a teen, she fell prey to a predatory modeling agency. When a Japanese agency offered the 57-year-old supermodel a summer modeling contract when she was only 16 years old, they tried to coerce her into doing nude images, so she fled right away.
British Vogue's September issue quotes Linda as saying, "When I got there, no one was waiting to pick me up. I had no cell phone, so it was evident why I was so disoriented. When I arrived at the agency, everyone told me to take my clothes off because we needed to take my measurements, but they already had them. They demanded that I go nude, and there was no "would you do nudes" discussion; rather, they said, "You will do nudes." My mother told me to get out and go to the embassy when I contacted her after leaving. I followed their advice, and they drove me home."
In 1990, Linda's modeling career took off, and she went on to become one of the most well-known supermodels in history, appearing on more than 60 magazine covers. However, she claims she never used drugs because she was "terrified" of them. The fashionista acknowledged that she didn't always take care of herself as she sought to maintain the hectic lifestyle.
She stated: "How did I continue? I was young, that much is true. You may go out and consume Champagne and salty fried foods, then go to bed at 3 A.M. and wake up at 5 A.M. I was given the opportunity to take drugs, but I refused to do so because I was afraid of them. I'm not saying I was a saint."
And Linda rapidly learned how to defend herself when it came to receiving compensation. She stated: "I possessed the strength to persevere. That was all there was to it. But I was also considering various industries. Not all athletes receive the same pay; some receive higher compensation for their contributions to the team. It wasn't a case of believing I was superior, but I was aware of my value."
